This is my third deconstruction of my double page spread. I have chosen to use this particular magazine as I think it gives a different perspective on the one I had used in my previous deconstruction. It gives the outlook of a younger magazine and the use of different colours.

1st deconstruction of double page spread.

This is my 1st deconsruction of my double page spread. I have chosen to use this article as I think  it gives a good demonstration of what a magazine double page spread should look like. I have mentioned the layout and the images and how they have been used differently to other magazines that may not choose to have one page as a full image.

Practice of article

This is the practice article that I have created for homework. I have done this so that I can get a better idea of how to set my article out when I properly do it in my magazine. As you can see my work has been marked and I have been shown where I can make improvements. For this piece of work I got an A but there is still room for a lot of improvements. the comments that were left will help me when I create my next article piece. I found doing the actual article quite enjoyable as I like to create articles, the aspects that i found challenging were the arrangement of the page and how to set it out correctly. I will look to improve on making it look a bit more professional and having better standards of photos.

3rd deconstruction of a contents page

This is the third deconstruction I have done, the reason I have done this deconstruction is so that I can see what magazines do to make the main features on the context pages stand out, that may be the colour text or the layout in the page. I will use some of the aspects on this page for example the smaller picture on the top left is a good of showing the different aspects on the page as what the magazine has to offer throughout.

This is the second deconstruction I have done, the reason I have done this deconstruction is so that I can see what magazines do to make the main features on the context pages stand out, that may be the colour text or the layout in the page. I will not be using this page layout as I don't think I will us this technique in my magazine as it look overcrowded and unprofessional as there is too many different colours on the page and too many different pictures.

This is the first deconstruction I have done, the reason I have done don't this deconstruction is so that I can see what magazines do to make the main features on the context pages stand out, that may be the colour text or the layout in the page. I will use these techniques in my magazine as I think this particular magazine is set out well.

Colour scheme/ Fonts

I have chosen to use reds and blacks for my fonts and colours as I think that they are good base colours that will flow well in coherence to the overall look of the magazine Especially with the main person on the front of my magazine as I can accessories their make-up and clothes with the overall look of the magazine.
I have chosen to try a range of different font types as I wanted to see what looked better in certain colours and what would suit the overall look of the magazine. This has helped me to see what colours work well and which once don't when placed together. The colours red, white and black work well as they compliment each other well.

Initial idea of magazine layout.

This was my very first thought of what I wanted my magazine to look like, it is very minimal as I was not yet sure on what I wanted to go where and what captions and headline to have on. This gives me a good outline though of what my magazine could look like. I like the general layout of the magazine but the aspects that could be improved are just the main body of the overall magazine like the quality of the image and the text being used plus the masthead and where the other images are placed in according to the text and images.

My initial ideas essay.

These two pages are my 1000 word essay on why I want my magazine to be specifically based and designed on. I looked in detail at what I wanted my magazine to look like. I added the colours and the content that was going to be in my magazine and just the initial ideas on what I wanted it look like. With the sheet that was given it helped give me a clear outline of what I wanted to happen and what I wanted my magazine to look like in the specific areas which helped with the overall planning of the magazine. The feedback that I got helped as it showed me what I could improve on.

Looking at genres

When I started the media course I initially got some enrolment work to do. This was to help me think forwards to what I wanted my magazine to look like and what I wanted it to include. The three boxes above classed as my initial research on music magazines this helped me look through different genres of magazines and to find out which ones I liked/ disliked. This meant that when it comes to me creating the magazine I know have a clear idea of what type of music magazine I want to create.

Design technique for front cover (hairstyles)

The reason that I have gone for curly hair is because I think it looks nice and can either look quit girly or the curls can look quit harsh depending on the ape of curls. This will be good for my front cover as my magazine is based on alternative rock / pop so the person needs to look a bit harsher instead of pop and girlie but still with an element of fashion and style.

Design techniques for front image (style)

For the style that my model will be wearing I have chosen to go with bod red colours and try to keep it minimal with the actual outfit. I think this will make the person stand out and catch the readers eye when looking over other magazine front covers. The other aspects of the outfit I will keep as black meaning the shoes and tights if necessary. This will appeal to my audience as my magazine will hopefully by quite current with the colours that are used and the overall look.

Design techniques for front image (make-up).

I have chosen to find ideas on what I could do my models make-up like for when it comes to deciding on the colours and will use them to see if it matches what I want my magazine front cover to go with. I have chosen quit minimal colours for my main page so I think that the make-up should be based around those colours, meaning they will be a combination of reds. I hope that the colours that I use will give off a mature look and also a look that will be in keeping with the theme of the magazine.

I have chosen to use this example as I think it gives a good insight into what magazines do to attract the reader. On this example the main image is used to block most of the actual page which I don't think I will use in my actual magazine as I want the reader to see the title of my page.

The reason that I am doing the deconstructions of the different parts of the magazine is so that I can see all of the different aspects of the magazine and do help me create my magazine. I have chosen to use this example as I think it gives a good insight into what magazines do to attract the reader. I will use these techniques when it comes to me making my magazine, I am hoping to do something similar to this when I create my magazine with the main person in the middle and the minimal colours.

Moodboard of Inspirations

This is my moodboard. It is based around bands and artists that I think my magazine would cater for. Plus it would cater for what people I think would like to read the magazine. The reason that I have chosen these magazine covers is to give me inspiration when actually designing my cover and contents page, plus this will help me to see what colours match together and which ones I should avoid using. I have chosen to use bands like Imagine Dragons and The Killers because I think that they are bands that most people like but I have also chosen bands/ artists that may be not yet known to some people. The photos of the tents and the background image is of a festival as that is one of the things in my contents page. I think that this will help me when it comes to making further decisions on what my magazine final cover will look like and it will allow me to refer back to it in the future.

Introduction

My name is Hannah Fraser and this is my blog, my blog is based on a brief. The brief that I am following is to create the front page, contents and double page spread of a music magazine. I have set up this blog to chart my progress throughout the making of the magazine and to see how my magazine and ideas adapt and change.

The magazine is set around music. The music that I am basing my magazine around is bands and artist that are either new and upcoming or bands that people really like to listen to on a wide scale. The people who will be reading my magazine will be people in the age of 16-19 and should like a variety of music from pop to rock (not heavy metal rock, this is not covered in the magazine). The main aim is to entertain and interest people when reading the magazine and to cater for a wide rang of readers.
