Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
I have learnt about the importance of social groups by doing my initial research and seeing just who would be interested in my magazine and the genre of my it. It is important for me to know my social group as that is who my magazine will be based around and advertised to and if the social groups do not like the magazine they will not return to read it which means that no one will buy my magazine in the future or recommend it to anyone else.
I set up to appeal to 16-25 year olds as thought this would go in the catchment of people in their last years of school, A-Level students and University Students who all are normally interested in music and socillising which is why I thought I would choose to use this age bracket and social groups.
I found out about the social groups that would have an interest in my magazine by doing research in the form of surveys and focus groups within my class and friend group. I also looked at NME and Q magazine and seen who their target audience was and tried to see if my target audience related to that and it did, this was good as I then knew that I was on the right track.
The social group that my audience belongs to is teenagers and young adults. I am representing them in my magazine by using fonts that I think will appeal to them, this being bold and bright dots that really catch the readers eye. I have also used the colors that have been used in magazines that are in relation to one. So I used colours like black, red, grey, yellow and purple. I did this because all of the colours complemented each other well and in the research that I did the feedback for the three base colours (red, black and grey) was good and people said that they thought it would work well with the audience and overall look of the magazine. The images that I used were simple yet effective just like the research that I did as I looked to see what type of images other music magainzes used and the research that I found was that it is very similar to the photos that I have taken. The style of the magazine is contemporary and modern which is what I wanted as it is aimed at the younger generation and the bands and people who I have put on the contents page are all in the charts today and is what the younger generation seem to like when I did my research.

Change to my contents page
On reflection when looking over my double page spread with my teacher I decided that the overall look of my contents page was just not right, so we decided upon changing the color of the banner at the top.
changes to DPS
As you can see I have made changes to the way my DPS spread looks. I have done this on reflection of my work and comments and suggestions made form my teacher and peers. I have changed the colour of the background so that it blends into the overall look of the magazine.
Feedback from Kay
This is the feedback that I got off a media teacher that was helping us on. As you can see the feedback that I got gave me a clear indication of what I have to do.

location recce

This is where I chose to do my photography at the University of Sunderland Media Centre. I chose to use this location as it has great reviews of the studio that is there and it was in a good location for me as it was close to my college. I contacted the person that is in charge of the studio there and got a date and time so that I could go and the studio would be set up as it is normally used by university students so I also had to check that it was not being used by the students.
